Richard IrvinCo-Owner & Member of Nursery

Richard (Dick) Irvin didn’t always want to be a landscape entrepreneur. Back in his youth, after graduating from Washington College with a psychology degree, Dick, an avid golfer, decided to pursue a golf career. But like many dreams of our youth, his desire for a golf career took a back seat after getting married and starting a family. After a year of trying to make it as a golf professional, Dick decided to make a go at Landscaping. Dick worked for several landscape firms in the area, learning the business until he started his own company, RI Landscaping, in 1961. Combining his knowledge of landscaping and his passion and reputation as a semi-pro golfer, Dick was instrumental in designing the Black Horse Golf Course located in White Hall, Maryland.

Harry Irvin, after seeing his son Dick's success in the landscaping business, decided to expand the business by purchasing a rundown dairy farm in Baltimore County in 1965. Dick’s brother Tom joined his father and brother in the business, creating the acronym TDH. The business started out small, selling plants, perennials and small bushes. It would take Dick 3 years to clear the once overgrown 40-acre dairy farm on a Gravely tractor before the Nursery could truly expand. Today, TDH Nurseries has over 80 acres of property and is a premier nursery in Maryland, servicing many local landscape companies. Although Dick no longer manages the day-to-day operations of the nursery, you can still see him riding around in the fields, overseeing the property and working alongside the guys.

All of the professionals at TDH Landscaping put passion and attention to detail in their work. Whether you're working with an owner, designer, or accountant, you'll be met with personal quality. You can find out for yourself by contacting us today.
